from the
A senior Law Society official is recovering after a frenzied knife attack outside his home in Edinburgh.
Leslie Cumming, 62, fought off the masked attacker as he was about to enter his home in Murrayfield Drive on Monday afternoon.
Mr Cumming, a chief accountant of the Law Society of Scotland for 26 years, was stabbed several times in the body and received cuts to his face. He is in a stable condition in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
The attacker ran off towards Ormidale Terrace and the Roseburn area. He was described as being in his 20s, of stocky build and was wearing dark clothing and a dark balaclava. Police are appealing for help to trace the attacker.
A statement issued by the society said: "The best wishes of colleagues and friends at the Law Society of Scotland are with Leslie Cumming, the society's chief accountant and his family.
"Leslie Cumming was attacked yesterday. Thankfully his injuries are not serious and he is already making a good recovery. The society is in touch with the police but has no information at this stage about the attack or any reason for it."
Police said they were not yet sure if it was a random attack or if Mr Cumming may have known the assailant. A police spokesman said: "This was an extremely frenzied assault which has left the victim with many cuts to his face and stab wounds.
"It was fortunate that he was able to fight off his attacker or the consequences may have been far worse."
It wasn't us...
Firstly, let us set the record absolutely straight. We know nothing about this attack on the Law Society's Chief Accountant and can only speculate as to the identity of the individual(s) responsible. We are thankful Mr Cumming made a speedy recovery. Violence is futile and only hampers the exposure of injustice and legal corruption.
So who was responsible?
We believe there are 3 possible suspects:
1. A Crooked or not-so-Crooked Lawyer - In accordance with secret Law Society protocol, small law firms sometimes become the focus of over-regulation. Essentially, they find themselves targetted by the Law Society for a minor transgression and are summarily shut down. The Law Society use these sacrificial lambs to bolster flailing investigative figures and to cover-up more serious criminality perpetrated by the bigger Establishment law firms. We would agree with solicitors from smaller firms who believe they are discriminated against; in essence a kind of legal profession apartheid. But as we know with the legal profession, nothing is ever black and white - always grey (they make more money that way!)
It may well be the case that Mr Cumming (and/or his dept) have closed down such a lawyer, resulting in this act of violence.
2. A Victim of Crooked Lawyers - There's a wealth of independent evidence showing the Law Society to be institutionally corrupt. One of Cumming's jobs at the law society was secretary of the solicitors guarantee fund, a slush fund purporting to reimburse victims of dishonest lawyers. We hold a mountain of evidence that it does nothing of the sort.
It is not inconceivable a member of the public has taken the law into their own hands following a perverse, self-protective decision taken by the guarantee fund.
3. Something of a personal nature, unconnected to his work. Law Society members' have more skeletons in their closets than Fred West had in his basement!
So what did Cumming have to say on a possible motive?
According to The Scotsman, nothing. Cumming appears unable or unwilling to help police with their inquiries.
And what did the Law Society say?
They reportedly blamed SACL.
As with most organised criminal cartels the Law Society are maintaining their code of silence. According to The Scotsman though, senior legal figures tried to suggest SACL or other anti-corruption campaigners were behind this crime! We wrote to the Law Society and the Faculty of Advocates asking them to clarify this position - but they refused to respond!
Surprise, Surprise!
We predicted that no individual would ever be charged in connection with this attack. Our prediction appears to be correct as Lothian & Borders police have reportedly 'scaled down' their investigation, despite an abundance of motives, DNA from the crime scene and eyewitness evidence (a physical description of the attacker was issued by police shortly after the attack).
